Novak Djokovic has defeated Daniil Medvedev to clinch a record-extending ninth Australian Open title.

The world no. 1, who has now won all his nine finals at the Rod Laver Arena, claimed his 18th Grand Slam success on Sunday.

He has won eight of the last 10 editions on the surface.

Djokovic stopped the Russian from winning his first-ever Grand Slam title in a three set victory of 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

He broke Medvedev when it mattered most to take the opening set 7-5.

The victory moved Djokovic to just two behind men’s record-holders: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The Serbian now holds a 5-3 head-to-head record against the 25-year-old Russian.
