There’s a certain feeling of its own kind when a writer looks back at his or her great work—a bell of joy and happiness ranged by the passion of writing, rings at that very moment and the sounds adds relish to the feeling.

This is most likely how Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie felt when she looked back at the introduction of a book of beautiful photographs she wrote some years ago.

On her Facebook page, Adichie read the introduction to her followers—the beautiful piece is a jewel of creative writing. It is most assuredly a delightful read that is a revelation to some and a reminder to others on what football is to nationalism and beyond.

She ended with saying “imagine if we all had shoes from the beginning”.

Watch the reading below…

I’d almost forgotten that I wrote this introduction some years ago! Really lovely to re-discover it — and this book of beautiful photographs by Pall Stefansson, with a forward by Didier Drogba.
