Real Madrid advanced into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) following a goalless draw in the second-leg tie against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Following a brilliantly executed defensive plan, the Spanish giants advance on a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

The Reds started the better side and should have taken the lead on three minutes but Mohamed Salah’s shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid Goalkeeper, who also batted away James Milner’s curling shot destined for the top corner.

Real Madrid came alive midway into the half after an interception allowed Benzema in and his deflected pass hit the bar, while Vinicius Jr’s follow-up was comfortably saved.

Salah and Giorgino Wijnaldum also blazed over late in the half as Real Madrid escaped into the interval goalless and with a two-goal lead.

Jurgen Klopp’s men fashioned the early chances of the second period, all falling to Roberto Firmino who was denied by Courtois and blazed wide on others.

Vinicius Jr. was put through by a deep ball but Alisson made a double save to deny the youngster and Benzema’s follow-up.

The 13-time UCL winners have advanced into the last four where they will meet Chelsea.

Manchester City also survived an early scare in Germany before recovering to win 2-1 against Borussia Dortmund and progress into the semi-finals on 4-2 aggregate.

Jude Bellingham scored for Dortmund in the first period before second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden won the game for the visitors.

RESULTS

  • Liverpool (1) 0-0 (3) Real Madrid (Real Madrid win 3-1 on aggregate)
