What is a faithful mother? A faithful mother is an honest mother. A faithful mother is a truthful woman. A faithful mother is a righteous mother. A faithful mother is a Holy mother. A faithful mother is a prayerful mother. As a mother, God has given you a great responsibility and a position of a great influence and honour.

Today I want to engage you on the influence of a faithful mother. And in this engagement, you would recognize that Mother’s Day is a difficult day for many. It is actually difficult for those women who want to have children yet they have none. Mother’s Day is difficult for those who have lost their mother. It is especially difficult for mothers who have lost their children. Mother’s Day is more difficult for others that have been rejected in the society, marriage and in the family. May almighty God provide for and guide such mothers in the name of Jesus.

We are living in an age where motherhood is not always honoured. Yet from heaven’s point of view, mothers are to be honoured. Infact parenting is singled out for special recognition and honour in the Ten Commandment in the book of Exodus 20:12 the bible says: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Jesus especially rebuked the religious leaders of Israel for their failure to honour parents. The society wants to push motherhood aside but it was God’s beautiful idea. And he determined that mothers are to be honoured. As a matter of fact, that 5th commandment, is the first commandment with a promise. Which is the same Exodus 20:12. The  Lord did not just say honour your father and your mother, he says “that your days may be long”, your mother’s prayers has a long way to go in your life. Your mother’s contribution, idea and advice has a long way to go in your life. That is why any child that needs to go far, needs a faithful mother.

The word mother is mentioned about 330 times in the bible,  beginning with Eve whose name means life. The meaning of Eve means life. Mother means life. She brought you to life. In her prayer she will give you life. In idea, in holding you, she will give you more life. Eve was called life because she was the mother of all that is living…in the book of Genesis 3:20. In the bible, there were brave mothers, like the mother of Moses who was not afraid of Pharaoh’s verdict. She was not afraid of Pharaoh’s decision but hid her baby Moses to preserve his life. When some mothers were giving up hope, Moses’s mother refused to give up hope.  She hid her baby. But have you ever ponder over this: Where was Moses’s father at this very time? Why was Moses’s father not partaking in the hidding of Moses?

A mother’s love is strong. A mother’s love is exceptional.

There was also a Deborah in the bible who led the Israelites in battle against Canaanites. A brave woman. There was also Mary, the mother of Jesus. An unlike anything else woman, chosen by God. The woman who feared God. The woman  who obeyed God from the beginning to the end without a dent. She was the only virgin to become a mother. What about the mother of Solomon that is hardly mentioned in the bible. But this is the woman that helped Solomon to step into his kingship. Solomon had no idea on how to become a king but the mother fought to make him a king.

Every mother has a unique strength drawn from heaven. They persevere, they love, they care for you in love even if you are not faithful. They do their best to make things work…even when you have given up hope, mothers will always give you hope.
Mothers don’t give up in any situation even when men have given up hope. For example, when Jesus was buried in the tomb, the women were the first to come there, they were still having hope in the corpse of Jesus Christ. Even when a child is condemned either by character or any other reason, the mother will never give up on the child. Mother’s put up with burdens that no man can bear.
