YouTube has named ten Nigerians among content creators to receive grants for the development of their channels from its 2022 black voices fund.

According to a statement on Thursday, the list includes a total of 26 African content creators selected from Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.

It also said the African creators would join a global cohort of 135 in its flagship #YouTubeBlack voices fund initiative.

The statement said apart from the grants to be received, those selected will also “get bespoke training, workshops and networking opportunities.”

Alex Okosi, managing director of YouTube’s emerging markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), described the selected African content creators as “outstanding”.

“We are excited to be working with an outstanding group of young and talented African creators who understand that content that resonates with their audience is both entertaining and thought-provoking,” he said.

“This group of creators is making content that starts important conversations about issues we face in society, which really resonate with their audience. We are inspired by them and hope that the skills they learn from being part of this programme will help them touch more lives than they’d ever imagined.”

This is the second class of African creators in the #YouTubeBlack voices fund aimed at nurturing black creators and artistes on the video-sharing platform.

Last year, YouTube had named Fireboy and Sauti Sol among its 21 African content creators that received the maiden edition of the fund.
