Liverpool scored two second-half goals to overcome a rejuvenated Arsenal side 2-0 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino were enough to overcome the Gunners in a game Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s talismanic forward, started from the bench.

The win moves Liverpool to 69 points from 29 matches, closing the gap on leader Manchester City to just one point as the EPL moved towards the final stretch of the season with nine matches left to play.

Arsenal battled Liverpool in the first period, matching the Anfield side in every department but Jurgen Klopp’s side turned on the afterburners early in the second period.

Jota converted Thiago Alcantara’s pass at the near post to put Liverpool ahead on 54 minutes before Roberto Firmino sealed the win eight minutes later with a flicked finish from Andy Robertson’s cross.

The win is Liverpool’s ninth successive league victory as they continue to chase down Manchester City, while the loss sees Arsenal remain fourth with two games still to spare on its top-four rivals.

Tottenham, also a top-four hopeful, won 2-0 at Brighton and Hove Albion.
