We spoke with Apostle Benson Enakhena this week on Godfrey Times Love Thursday (GTLT) to learn more about “Love in a Christian Marriage.”

We learned a lot from our conversation with El-Shaddai Salvation Family Ministries’ lead pastor, who told Godfrey Times Love Thursday that if a marriage must stand, there should be no conditions.

We know and hope that this interaction will be a huge blessing not only to existing marriages but also to those who are contemplating marriage.

So, here’s the first part of this week’s GTLT discussion on “Love in a Christian Marriage.”

Love is inconveniencing oneself for another. That is why the Bible states that what love is higher than a man laying down his life for another man. That is exactly the greatest thing you can find in love. 2 Corinthians 8:9. That is inconveniencing oneself for another. That’s where I picked that definition from.

Love is tolerance. Do you know what can quickly kill love? I love Godfrey because he is fair in complexion. Assuming something now happen, he becomes dark? Love is unconditional. When you add conditions to love, it will never last. It is just like planting a mango in your house, it is not a flower. There is a condition. What is the condition? That this mango will produce fruits. That was what Jesus Christ was expecting from the Fig tree. Because it is not a flower. When it refuse to produce fruits, then the love for the Fig tree died and He cursed it. Because there was a conditional love of Jesus towards the Fig tree. So if a marriage must stand, you shouldn’t have conditions like “my wife must give me children, be a fantastic chef, and tolerate me.” Why aren’t you tolerating your wife? And love does not compare. You are here, isn’t it a woman like you that built a house for her husband? Which means you are a gold digger. Either the man or a woman is a gold digger. Don’t compare your relationship!

Love is putting another one in your own image. Which means you are wearing the man or woman’s shoes. That is the reason why God has not destroyed man. Because He said let us create him in our image and in our likeness. That is why. Because you cannot destroy what is in your image and in your own likeness. So if a man tries to destroy his wife or a woman tries to destroy her husband then there was no true love. Because what that person did to you, if you had done it to yourself, you cannot destroy yourself.
