INSIDE NIGERIA — The disagreement in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party’s presidential ticket dominated the cover page of Nigerian newspapers.
The Punch reports the consensus presidential candidate plot of Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, has failed. The newspaper says university unions and the federal government renegotiation panel will end their sitting today.
The Nation reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has denied the choice of Ahmad Lawan, senate president, as the party’s consensus presidential candidate. The newspaper says terrorists who attacked St Francis Catholic church in Owo, Ondo state, operated for 30 minutes.
The Guardian says there is confusion in the APC over zoning and presidential consensus candidate. The newspaper reports that the presidency said no single individual is responsible for the emergence of Buhari as the president in 2015.
Daily Independent says Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is in a dilemma over the choice of his running mate. The newspaper says John Akpanudoedehe, former APC caretaker committee secretary, has dumped the party for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Daily Sun reports that hoodlums enforcing sit-at-home in Nsukka, Enugu set a trailer ablaze. The newspaper says Nigeria Air, the country’s proposed national carrier, has received the Air Transport Licence (ATL) to commence operations.
